Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham : The adopted but much loved older son of a rich couple is banished by his father when he chooses to marry a middle-class girl. With a desire to reunite his family, the younger son sets out to find him. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (K3G) is Bollywood’s first designer film directed by Karan Johar is not only rich in casting (stellar cast with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor), but rich in costumes, sets, locations, emotions…

Hum Saath – Saath Hain : Ramkishen and Mamta have three sons, Vivek, Prem and Vinod. As Vivek is Mamta’s stepson, she embitters her heart towards him for the sake of her own sons. Vivek dutifully accepts her decision. Starring Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Behl, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Karishma Kapoor, Alok Nath, Rima Lagoo & Neelam is a classic yesteryear film which speaks about family values. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film was a hit when it released in 1999 and had seven elaborate songs.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! : Prem madly loves Nisha, his brother Rajesh’s sister-in-law. But when Rajesh’s wife dies, the families urge him to marry Nisha for the sake of his baby. Prem and Nisha decide to sacrifice their love. The movie had Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in lead roles and it was directed by Sooraj Barjatya, HAHK opened to a thunderous response at the box office. ‘HAHK’ was a love story with a twist and highlighted the need to respect elders.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge : Raj and Simran meet on Eurail and unknowingly fall for each other. Raj is shattered to learn that she is already engaged. He follows Simran to India in order to win her and her strict father’s heart. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol immortalised Raj and Simran onscreen in DDLJ, as it is fondly known, and have given us some of the most hilarious and romantic moments.

Piku : A road trip to Kolkata brings Piku, an architect, closer to her ageing but nagging father Bhaskor Banerjee despite their disparate ideologies and fights over trivial issues. The eccentric family of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone is endearing  and is laced with enjoyable banter and the general sense of bonhomie.

Kapoor & Sons : It’s a story of a dysfunctional family of 2 brothers who visit their family and discover that their parents marriage is on the verge of collapse,the family is undergoing a financial crunch and much more as the drama unfolds. Starring  Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt is a heart warming, emotional and humorous movie.

Khichdi : The Movie : The popular sitcom from television took on a celluloid avatar as Khichdi: The Movie, trying to recreate the idiot box humour of the family of idiots, where stupidity is the norm and intelligence, an exception. The movie is all about adventures of a hilariously madcap Parekh family.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns : When Tanu and Manu’s marriage breaks apart, Tanu returns to her hometown. Meanwhile, Manu falls in love with a girl who looks exactly like Tanu. With Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Shergill in lead roles, the movie has hilarious narrative, colourful frames and rustic dialogues.

Maine Pyar Kiya : Prem and Suman fall in love with each other, only to be torn apart by family clashes. However, Suman’s father is willing to give Prem one last chance. Will Prem prove himself worthy of Suman’s love? A musical directed by Sooraj Barjatya the film redefined friendship and romance in Bollywood.

Trishul : Vijay, the illegitimate son of wealthy businessman, Rajkumar, decides to exact revenge on his father when he learns that his father abandoned his mother, to marry a rich heiress. The movie with a huge star cast comprising of Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee, Waheeda Rehman, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, has some memorable confrontation scenes, with impactful dialogues.

Swarg : Krishna worships his master like God. Circumstances lead to his ouster from the house. He works hard, becomes powerful and returns to restore the honour of his master. Directed by David Dhawan, the film stars Rajesh Khanna, Govinda, Juhi Chawla and Madhavi in pivotal roles.

Sansar : Din Dayal Sharma’s daughter-in-law goes to live with her parents owing to her pregnancy. On her return, she finds that the family is separated and tries to reunite them. Directed by T. Rama Rao and starring Anupam Kher, Rekha and Raj Babbar in the lead roles, the film presents the rift between the family due to clash of egos among the children and their parents.

Biwi Ho To Aisi : Suraj secretly marries village belle Shalu against his domineering mother Kamla’s wishes. In a bid to get rid of Shalu, Kamla frames her and accuses her of stealing jewellery and money. The lead pairs were Rekha and Farooq Shaikh and this movie marked the n-screen debut of Salman Khan.

Ghar Ek Mandir : Brothers Prem, Vijay and Ravi consider their home a temple of love. However, their lives turn upside down when Prem gets killed and Vijay is blinded by the love of Sapna.Directed by K.Bapaiah, the movie had Shashi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Ranjeeta, Moushumi Chatterjee, Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan and Raj Kiran.

Avtaar : Avtaar’s sons are ungrateful and leave him and his wife to fend for themselves. However, he reaches new heights of success after his sons oust them. starring Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi, Avtaar was a commercial hit, and was critically acclaimed.

Ghar Ho To Aisa : Amar’s mother Durga rules her house like a dictator and tortures her daughter-in-law Sharda. After Sharda and her daughter die, Amar decides to teach his cruel family a lesson with the help of Seema. The movie had Anil Kapoor and Meenakshi Seshadri in pivotal roles.
