Hindi cinema churns a lot of movies every year. As expected, some are good, some bad and some pretty ugly. Today we share with you some of the must watch Bollywood Movies.

1. Chak De! India

“Chak De India” is a story of disgraced former hockey captain who mentors a hockey team of young and feisty girls. Their determination, ambition and skills are put to test in an ultimate competition with the world’s top teams. For the girls it is a chance to make their nation proud. For their coach it is a chance to reclaim his lost honor. Shah Rukh Khan’s role as coach Kabir Khan was possibly his best role ever.

2. A Wednesday! 

A thought-provoking take on terrorism. Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher are the two protagonists whose acts over four hours, one Wednesday form the central theme of the movie. It is intriguing all the way with a twist you may not see coming.

3. Munna Bhai MBBS and Lago Raho Munnabhai

Munnabhai series had a great story which was inspiring, entertaining and hilarious too.  The movie brought Gandhi and his ideologies to life. Munnabhai, a vagabond with a heart of gold was played by Sanjay Dutt brilliantly.

4. Tere Bin Laden 

This is a hilarious but a serious satire on geo-politics. It takes digs at the US for its war on terror. It also brings to light the tactics of TRP driven media and the desperation of Pakistani youth to leave the country and live in USA. A fun movie with rib-tickling humour.

5. Peepli [Live] 

This is one of the best movies on journalism. It gives insight on the workings of Indian media, life in villages and suicides of farmers.

6. Paan Singh Tomar 

A biographical film, Paan Singh Tomar is a heart wrenching story of how the State betrays one of country’s fine athlete. Paan Singh wins a gold medal at the Indian National Games, but is forced to become a notorious bandit. It’s a powerful movie with a powerful character and superb acting by Irrfan Khan.

7. Vicky Donor 

Loosely based on the Canadian French film Starbuck, Vicky Donor is a fantastic comedy-drama film. It is a light-hearted look at the taboo attached to infertility, sperm donation and artificial insemination. This was Ayushmann Khurrana’s debut movie, he was a complete natural, and delivered a superb performance.

8. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

It’s a  coming-of-age comedy-drama and is a perfect tribute to friendship. It is a journey of three friends who go on a road trip and face the highs and lows of life together. The movie  is loved for the life lessons it shares viz facing fears and overcoming them and that friends are for life and their backgrounds doesn’t matter. Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol played three friends with amazing chemistry.

9. 3 Idiots

This is another  coming of age comedy-drama film which is loosely adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. Two friends embark on a journey to find a lost friend. It is this friend who friend who influenced and inspired them to think creatively and independently, and follow their passions. It also highlights the failings of Indian education system and its emphasis on grades and percentages. 3 Idiots is a laugh riot and is emotional, entertaining, and enlightening. The film has tremendous youth appeal too.

10. Rang De Basanti

This one is a thought-provoking, soul-stirring wake up call to the youth of India. It’s a film that arouses patrioitism in the viewer. The film revolves around a group of five friends who go through a roller coaster ride of bringing about changes in the society… creating the need of activism on matters of public interest.. The changes these youngsters encounter transform them completely. The movie received an overwhelmingly positive response.

11. Queen

A bittersweet  comedy of self-discovery, Queen is a  tells the story of Rani, a naive young bride from Delhi who is devastated when her fiancé calls things off, but decides to take her European honeymoon trip anyway, on her own. Queen is all about making friends and trusting them and living life to the fullest. It is a sparkling little gem.

12. Taare Zameen Par

It is a story of Ishan Avasthi, an 8-year old boy who faces day-to-day challenges because of dyslexia and his journey of moving from his home to a boarding school. He overcomes his learning disabilities and emerges as a shining star. The movie gives a message that children must not be pressurized to be good at just studies but should be allowed to explore their passions. It is a moving and heart warming movie. A must watch for all kids and parents.

13. Jab We Met

Love stories are beaten to death. But this one is a  love story that’s  warm, fuzzy, and for the most part, an original love story. Shahid and Kareena in the lead role, gave memorable performance and lent a whole new meaning to the boy-meets-girl story. This heartwarming love story is a must watch

14. Udaan

Touted as a cult movie, Udaan is the story of thousands of youths from middle India’s middle-class families. It is an emotionally charged film that moves you to tears. Udaan is the story of anguish and breaking away  from the conventional path to follow one’s dreams. A must watch for all parents and children.
